Bullet journal conceptually is so simple yet so brilliant
Before I start raving about it, first let us talk ADHD.
I was reading a recommended book that had great reviews. Around almost mid of book the author had a chapter that went like this: (Please note: this is not verbatim, since I don’t recall the exact sentence) “The recent acronyms created like ADHD and other such terms are marketing gimmicks and they didn’t exist back then and people were okay”
And at that point I shut the book and returned it
Was the author right ? Maybe … marketing has such a high influence that it is hard to trust what is being sold to you especially when it is sold as a necessity
However I have a hard time with people who pretend everything is fine and normal and everyone is okay
If you read research or neuroscience, or read some good authors, all of them agree that pain exists to teach you how to survive.
When you are pain, you find a solution to avoid that in future – in fact, I remember reading about a baby who couldn’t feel pain and hence kept scratching herself and her mom had to watch her around the clock to protect her
So when there is a problem, you look for solutions and apply that to fix the problem. As per researchers, that is how our brain learns how to protect us
*** (Read PS) – any puzzle/problem/challenge/difference -> find solutions-> apply > relearn > apply fix problem
You can call it pain or problem or puzzle anything but outcome is great if you find the right solution to the right problem
Right?
Let us go back to that author-point – saying that ADHD is a marketing gimmick
How does that actually help – how can you fix a puzzle by avoiding it – refusing to accept that it exists
By refusing to accept ADHD exists and it does not impact any people, you are actually also denying the solutions that actually help people with ADHD navigate life better and more easily
It is actually that simple!!
People are different- the more we keep refusing to accept that – which I don’t get why we keep doing that. – we are actually denying providing or finding best solutions to the puzzles we face in life
And instead keep forcing positive thoughts down our throats doesn’t actually help everyone!
Labeling with other nomenclature does not help either – lazy?
- Stop being lazy? Just focus you can do it ! See I can do it ! You can do it too…
- Sit still and listen, you can do it, look at other kids and be like them?
ya right, thanks captain obvious!
Instead, if you actually apply well researched methods that actually help a person navigate life with better tools – isn’t that great ?
Or do you just love to keep berating people with your assumptions about them ?
And sure I understand- it is hard to believe something exist when don’t go through it and it is not tangible experience – and hence we tend to berate it or acknowledge its existence.
And that is why it is helpful to open up our mind to possibilities that things that we have not experienced exists all around the world and in the universe
This doesn’t just apply to ADHD. It applies to any experience.
Hence next time, we tend to invalidate someone’s experience, please pause, step back, and listen. You do not have to contribute to the conversation if you do not relate to it. Just listening is efficient and sufficient!
PS:
***Over-examination of problems or cyclic thoughts before bedtime are not same as solving active problems at hand.
Please be cautious when your brain forces you to solve a puzzle 🙂
Easy example: Practicing what you should have answered a bully in high school some 10 years ago, is not solving active puzzle – it is ruminating – for that refer earlier post on how to overcome it by writing it down and letting it go
Another PS: Some solutions do not work for everyone. Please consult a professional who have active experience in solving the said problems.
