There are multiple stages of how we lead our life, as children, as teenagers, as adults, as partners and as parents. At each stage our habits significantly differs depending on what is ingrained into our nature.
I have to admit, I did not have many healthy habits but recently thanks to youtube, I have had positive influence and adopted many healthy habits over last few months.
We all need positive influence in our life, so would love to share what I have learnt and implemented in the hope that they influence you as well.
HABIT: Make your bed EVERY MORNING
Benefits:
- Feeling of accomplishment that you have completed one task
- The awesome & peaceful feeling when you go to bed tired and a well made bed welcomes you. Trust me, this is the best feeling ever.
- Avoid hurting yourself by bumping into things left on the bed (hair clips, chargers, keys? ).
This is the easiest task that can be done first thing in the morning.
Let me share some tips to make this easier for you:
Minimalism: Have only required number of pillows/items on your bed:
When I see the store catalogs, I can never understand why there are 20 pillows on a bed and what purpose they serve. In most of the movies or tv shows, people (actors) throw the extra pillows on the floor before going to bed. Why in the world would the floor need pillows every night and the bed need the pillow every day? Add that to the list of things You Never Understand or Never Relate to π
Moving on to the first tip, have only required number of pillows and sheets on your bed. This helps in speeding up the process of making the bed, cleaning the bed. Moreover it saves resources in multiple ways – less washing, less items, less replacements etc.
Aesthetics: Choose calm colors that helps induce sleep
I know we all want to go bold and splash colors on our walls – red, or other way too bright colors However do some research and choose calm colors for your sheets and pillows. If it is your own house, do the same on your walls as well (do take care to not go too dark, as during the day, light colors reflect light better and you get much better light in the room).
Simplify: Keep the routine simple
The best way to sustain a habit is to keep it simple. If you have a complicated process that takes 15-20 mins, the excitement to do the task tapers off in few days and it eventually stops. Once you have tackled the number of items and kept only the bare minimum, creating a simple routine to make your bed should be fairly easy.
Avoid Clutter: Avoid taking stuff to bedroom the previous night
Are you someone how ends your activities on your bed room? Stop doing that. Avoid taking laptops, tabs, volumes of books etc. to your bed every single night. Choose a simple setup or a night stand next to your bed and have only bare essentials there – like water bottle, ONE book (who are you kidding by taking 5 books next to bed?), other self care stuff.
Your bed is your sanctuary – treat it like a kings bed – a nice clean and empty bed. It makes it look so luxurious and relaxing to not bump into things when you wake up or roll over.
Family time: Engage your family in the activity
I am sure your husband would appreciate if you don’t make the bed while he is still dozing in there :). However when you skip it for later, chances are you don’t get another chance or time to do it. Hence, engage your family in this habit. Request your family to participate in this activity so that it gets done even when you are available to do it.
If you have young children, do this in front of them every single day so that they cultivate the same habit as they grow up.
Hope you made your bed this morning before you made your coffee and sat down to catch up on blogs π Happy Morning!!!
